APW - Waltham, Riverside Maximus, 21J, Model 1888, 16S, 14K gold OF original case with HWW marking for retailer Hayden W. Wheeler of Maiden Lane, New York, gold cuvette, white enamel DS dial with distinctive script "Waltham A.W.W.Co." signature characteristic to the Model 1888 version of this mvt grade, SW-SS, fully capped lever escapement, three visible diamond endstones, ornate nickel damascene, s#7000694. Gross weight of assembled watch 68.6 dwt (106.7 g). A scarce and attractive high grade watch, Waltham records show a total production of 851 made of the open face Model 1888 Riverside Maximus.
CONDITION:
Mvt: Running, excellent cosmetic mvt condition overall, bright lustrous plates with some scattered fine to micro-fine scratches, few small specks of oxide to larger winding wheel, one balance jewel setting screw is a gilt replacement; excellent dial with few scattered small fine scratches and pinpoint surface nicks; excellent hands, finish loss to portion of hour spade, finish loss to areas of seconds-hand; case shows medium wear, scratches to upper-right rear perimeter from slipped past openings, mild dent to band at 8; tight bow crimped and unevenly thinned to its upper portion, crown shows ample wear; glass crystal with scratch at center.
